Important Dates to Remember

January 1st
Effective date for assessed value. Texas property is assessed at its value on this date via a constitutionally mandated lien. Taxpayers should document property conditions as of this date.

January 31st
Deadline to pay prior year taxes without penalty and interest Deadline to file “late” protest under 2525(c) or 2525(d) from prior year taxes. Deadline to resolve a 2525 (h) protest for prior years

February 1st
Property taxes from prior year become delinquent.

April 15th
Deadline to file mandatory renditions

April 30th
Deadline to apply for exemptions and special use valuations.

May 31st
Deadline to file a protest (or 30 days after the date the Appraisal District mailed notice of assessed value, which ever is later.) BE SAFE AND FILE EARLY AS YOU MIGHT NOT GET NOTICED THIS YEAR!

June
General protest period

July 1st
Penalty reaches maximum additional penalty imposed. Legal collection actions begin.

July 25th
Deadline for appraisal district to certify tax roll. September 1st Tax rate is adopted.

October 1st
Tax bills TYPICALLY mailed December 31st Deadline for establishment of residency, used for Homestead Exemption applications which commence during the next calendar year.
